About The Author
I am Gloria Taidel,
a professional children's book writer and illustrator.
I draw with children in mind and see the world from their perspective.
My writing relates to children's language and my drawings are never short of colour and imagination.
Take a look below and check out the tools and stages of some of my paintings and pictures from my books.
Some of my books are colouring books. The world needs some colour and I usually use annual occasions to produce a new colouring book. Check them out in the Youth section!
Ever wondered how long it takes to complete illustrations and bring even the smallest drawings and details to life?
Longer than you think. I scetch, draft, copy, colour and edit. My drawings are designed NOT to be perfect. After all not to be perfect makes it more fun.
By the way, or in case you were wondering…
I do have two children myself. They are my awesome kind-hearted adventurers and life is never dull around them.
They are my biggest critics and helpers. Got to listen to children. They know stuff.
How
it’s made
The idea...
I work with various techniques, but I usually start with a simple pencil scetch. I rarely adapt my scetches a lot because I believe in the originality of the first thought and feeling.
The scetch...
Tracing and scetching are key. My tools are very simple, you might even use some of them at home. Editing normally takes longer than people believe but shorter than it should. There is a method in chaos.
Bring pictures to life
I relate to water colour pencils and fine liners as the latter provides the accuracy I need for detailed drawings and water colours enhance with a touch of romantic and picturesce liveliness.
